Fanime

Late last year, Jon convinced me to go to Fanime and I finally bought my tickets last week.

I had been wanting to go to Comic-Con for a while now, but based on the cost and several negative recommendation from people who have actually attended (too big, too commercial, impossible to meet the artists, etc), I decided against it. However, I still wanted to go to a convention type event and Renovations isn't till 2011. Thus Jon suggested Fanime.

Jon has been a number of times in the past and always comes back with happy tales, so come Memorial Day Weekend this year, we will be going.

So why am I writing about an event so far out? Costumes.

Costumes are a bit part of the con experience and I do want to get dressed appropriately. I'm currently planning on going as Vash the Stampede from Trigun.

I've done some initial investigations online for the costume (the red coat) and accessories (glasses, gun, gloves, left arm wrapping) and it looks promising, though I'd welcome any suggestions, be they alternate costume ideas or leads on parts for this one.

Lastly, if anyone has been to Fanime previously, or is going this year, I'd love to hear from y'all, so leave a comment and let us know what you thought and what you went as (if you went in costume).

Anime: Martian Successor Nadesico

When I first started this blog many years ago, I decided that it was going to be "tech only" and that worked for a good long while, though eventually I got tired of it. The main problem is that when you work with computers, your hobby is computers and all you write about is computers - it gets a bit... tedious. Anyways the reason that I'm bringing this up is that even when I decided to start to stray from that "tech only" approach, I made a rule with myself that I wouldn't talk about Anime. Now I've long since decided to expand out into whatever I feel like writing about, but I still wasn't covering Anime. There was no real reason to this, that I remember, I simply didn't.

Now I've decided to rectify that situation. Allow me to officially introduce the Anime category and my inaugural post about anime. I do spend a good portion of my free time watching anime, and I've watched at least a hundred different series, so it is about time I start covering them and doing some reviews. As with all the other reviews I do there isn't going to be anything formal. No numbers, no stars, no grades - just my impressions. One last item, I will never give away any spoilers (without a proper warning). So now on to good stuff!
